Today, Mr. Kox, chairman of the UEL Group, addressed his PACE colleagues, chairpersons from the political groups and leaders of the national delegations in a letter calling for a fair trial for and release of Mr. Selahattin Demirtaş, co-chairperson of HDP.
“May I therefore urge you to call on the Turkish authorities to show respect for the rights which Turkey has guaranteed to all its citizens by signing the ECHR, and to release immediately Selahattin Demirtaş, Figen Yüksekdag and all other members of the HDP who have been detained and to at least allow them to prepare themselves in freedom for their defense against the charges filed against them?”, wrote Mr. Kox.
