UEL Chair Kox: European austerity undermines human rights of European citizens

At an international conference in Copenhagen (19-20 November), UEL Chair Tiny Kox emphasized that European austerity policy is undermining social and democratic rights of European citizens. Referring to earlier reports  of Council of Europe’s Human Rights Commissioner Nils Muižnieks and  several resolutions on austerity adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly  Mr Kox concluded that ‘alternatives to the Europe of austerity are not only desirable but even obligatory if we want to respect the human rights – obligations all Council of Europe member states have taken upon themselves.’
